Beyond the crumbling walls of an ancient, long deserted house, lay a rambling, wild garden. Now, devoid of human occupation and care, the forgotten garden was inhabited by the foxes, badgers, rabbits, mice and birds of the air. They lived an idyllic life and had everything they needed, homes, food and plenty of room. But soon their lives were to be shattered by the arrival of the woodland ants. On a bright spring morning badger was fast asleep in his burrow oblivious to the commotion going on above him. Fox was dashing around stirring up the rabbits and birds for a counsel of war. Fox managed to gather his troops by the old fountain and started to deliver his speech. "Fellow garden creatures. Our lives are in danger!" he shouted. The rabbits and birds responded in high-pitched alarm. "Each year we are invaded by the woodland ants. They destroy our homes and food and it has to stop right now!" he continued. "We must fight together to throw them out of our garden. Are you with me?" To read the rest of this story send me an email... 11th April 2003. Ó 2003 Steven Longman-Marshall – all rights reserved.
